Lady Billies Open Season With Win Over DeWitt 4-2

Monticello-The Monticello Lady Billies gave up two early runs off a homerun by Karli Reives of DeWitt in the first inning, but rallied to defeat the Lady Dragons 4-2 to open the 2017 season.

Monticello failed to get on the board in the bottom half of the first inning, but was able to keep DeWitt from scoring in the top half of the second. With two outs, the Lady Billies rallied in the bottom half of the second.

With two outs and a full count against her, Monticello’s Maggie McGee reached first on a fly ball that was ruled an error by DeWitt centerfielder Savannah Patterson, advancing Jordyn Nowlen to third base. Kate Brown walked in the next at bat to load the bases for the Lady Billies.

Nowlen scored on a passed ball, and Monticello loaded the bases again after a single by Anna Wright. Emmilee Lawson hit into a fielder’s choice scoring Mcgee to tie the game at two. Baleigh Jackson flied to Patterson to end the inning.

The score remained tied at two until the bottom of the fourth inning when Monticello’s Jaye Pace doubled to center field scoring Wright and Elise McDuff to take the lead 4-2. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the contest as Monticello gained the victory to start the 2017 season 1-0.

For Monticello, Jaye Pace and Anna Wright led the Lady Billies at the plate, each going 2-4. Pace ended the game with two RBIs.

Emmalee Saterlee finished the game with seven innings pitched, giving up two runs on six hits.
