BARTLESVILLE, Oklahoma - The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team was defeated in the GAC Championship game by East Central by a final score of 82-67.
The Weevils (23-6) found itself up at the half against the Tigers of East Central (24-7), 37-31, but the hot shooting of ECU would fuel the Tiger comeback in the second half. UAM was held to 46 percent shooting from the field, compared to that of East Central at 69 percent, which led to the ECU victory at 82-67 overall by the final buzzer.
UAM was led on offense by Cobe Goosby with 23 total points on 11-of-20 shooting from the floor. Goosby led the Weevils with eight total rebounds and added two assists and two steals as well.
Senior Vicktor Arnick totaled 10 points in the match-up, and contributed five boards and dished out two assists also.
Final team statistics in the contest for UAM included 45 percent shooting from the floor (26-for-58), 25 percent beyond the arc (2-for-8), and 59 percent on foul shots (13-for-22). ECU finished the game shooting 53 percent (29-for-55) overall, 50 percent on three-pointers (9-for-18), and 65 percent from the free throw line (15-for-23).
Arkansas-Monticello will now look to the NCAA Division II Selection Show to see where the Weevils finish overall in the central region, which will then determine UAM's first round match-up in the NCAA Tournament next week.
