Shawnee, Oklahoma - The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team defeated Great American Conference opponent Oklahoma Baptist Sunday afternoon on the road by a final score of 6-3.
UAM (11-8, 8-2 GAC) got onto the board first in this series opening game against the Bison of OBU (9-9, 4-6 GAC) with a Guy Halbert two-run home-run to left field giving the Weevils the 2-0 advantage.
After surrendering two runs to Oklahoma Baptist in the bottom of the sixth inning, UAM reclaimed the lead in the top of the seventh with RBI singles by both Gentry Ford, and Lathan McFadden to put Arkansas-Monticello up 4-2.
Senior Alex Smith added to that UAM lead in the top of the eighth after a double to left field scored two additional runs, giving the Weevils the 6-2 lead over the Bison, and despite allowing one run in the bottom half of the inning, the Weevils secured the 6-3 victory on the road.
Senior Grant Black (3-2) threw 7.0 innings to earn his second third win of the year, only allowing one hit and struck out eight hitters. Dawson Moser picked up his third save of the season as well throwing the final inning and striking out two.
The Weevils will conclude the series against OBU tomorrow, Monday, March 13, with a double-header in Shawnee, Oklahoma with first pitch in game one set for 1 p.m.
