MARYVILLE, Missouri - The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team was taken down in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament - Central Region by Augustana University by a final score of 76-69.
The Weevils (23-7) held a six-point lead over the Vikings of Augustana (24-8) at 43-37 at halftime in this NCAA Tournament opening round match-up. The second half however was a different game as the Vikings overtook UAM after a 27-10 run to open the second half of play.
Despite Arkansas-Monticello creating a run of its own late in the ballgame, Augustana held its lead by the final buzzer to advance, 76-69.
Arkansas-Monticello was led offensively by junior Derylton Hill with 17 total points on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor. Hill added four steals, and three assists to his overall stat-line as well.
Juniors Cobe Goosby and Tyrin Jones each provided 14 points each in the contest and Goosby led the squad in both rebounds with seven, and assists with four.
Final team stats in the game for UAM included 48 percent shooting from the floor (29-for-61), 29 percent from three-point range (6-for-21), and 63 percent on free throws (5-for-8). Augustana finished the contest shooting 60 percent (33-for-55) overall, 35 percent on three-pointers (6-for-17), and 80 percent from the charity stripe (4-for-5).
This concludes the Weevils season, finishing 23-7 overall after finishing the year Great American Conference Regular Season Champions and will look to continue its success next year in the 2017-2018 season.
